How Virtual Machine Pricing Works

Our goal while developing pricing for the Webhero cloud was to make it very simple. Here is how it works. The cloud is composed of many computers with lots of RAM (Ram is the Memory that applications run in). We offer two types of services. VM’s and Cloud Instances.

A Cloud Instance sets an allocation of RAM that is always available for that application. A Cloud Instance is for developers and webmasters that want to focus on the web site and leave the systems administration to us.

A VM (Virtual Machine) sets a fixed allocation of RAM that is always available for that VM. A VM is for someone that wants root access to a machine and wants to do all the administrative work. So RAM is the easiest way to price. We have selected 128MB of ram as our standard unit of measure for Cloud Instances. This is because most applications will run in 128MB.

So the price of providing your RAM is composed of many components including the cost of the Servers, Routers, Electricity, Data Center, Administration, Customer Service, Software Development etc. . We highly recommend Cloud Instances for most sites.

Pricing is as follows:

Since Cloud instances have much more functionality and are administered by us, they cost a bit more per MB of RAM than VMs.
