Publish to Subdirectory Using FrontPage

There are three ways to publish to a subdirectory using FrontPage:

  • Creating a FrontPage Subweb Publishing with any Username & Password you define
  • Publishing to the Subdirectory Indirectly using FrontPage
  • Publishing to the Subdirectory Indirectly using FrontPage FTP publishing

Creating a FrontPage Subweb Publishing with any Username & Password you define

This option will allow you to manage the subdirectory hosted site as a separate website on your computer

1. Create a FrontPage Subweb for the www.subdirectory-hosted-domain.com folder

  • Enter the following URL into the address text area of a Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser replacing "www.master-domain.com" as appropriate:

www.master-domain.com/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmcgi.exe

  • Enter the master domain username and password

  • Click on Create a Subweb

  • In the (Create a New Subweb) "Name:" text area type in www.subdirectory-hosted-domain.com replacing "www.subdirectory-hosted-domain.com" as appropriate.

  • If only one person will be editing the site space

Select the "Use same permissions as parent web"

  • If more than one person will be editing the site space (EX: you have several subdirectory hosted domains and each one will have a different person editing the site)

Select "Use unique permissions for this web"

  • Please wait while your changes are processed...

Note: To avoid errors in this step wait until it has returned to the administration page. Depending on the size of your master domain website including all of the subdirectories this step may take a very long time.

2. Design the subdirectory hosted website in its own location on your computer using FrontPage.

3. Publish the website to www.master-domain.com/www.subdirectory-hosted-domain.com

  • Replace www.master-domain.com and www.subdirectory-hosted-domain.com as appropriate.

  • Use either the same username and password as the master domain or use the unique username and password as appropriate.

Publishing to the Subdirectory Indirectly using FrontPage

1. Design the subdirectory hosted website inside of your existing master-domain website using FrontPage.

  • The index page would first be created in the www.subdirectory-hosted-domain.com folder listed inside of www.master-domain.com

2. Publish the website to www.your-master-domain.com

Publishing to the Subdirectory Indirectly using FrontPage FTP publishing

This option should only be taken if problems occur in both of the first two options. In this unlikely event you would publish indirectly but would use the FTP option in FrontPage when actually publishing.
