MX Records
MX is an abbreviation for Mail eXchange record, which is an entry in a domain name system (DNS) database that identifies the mail server that is responsible for handling e-mails for a domain name. Any domain using our mail servers will have two MX records with host values mx1.webhero.com (10) & mx2.webhero.com (20) unless a Spam Shark filter is present. A domain with Spam Shark will have one MX record with the host listed as spamfilter.catalog.com (10). When more than one MX record is entered for any single domain name that is using more than one mail server, the MX record can be prioritized with a preference number that indicates the order in which the mail servers should be used. The lowest number in the preference order always takes the hightest priority. This enables the use of primary exchanges and backup mail servers. If it is ever necessary for you to change your MX records, please login to your Webhero.com account and use the zone mapping tool. Can I point my mail to an external IP address? Yes, you can point your mail to an external IP address by using the following instructions. 1. Please delete all your MX records using the zone mapping tool within your Webhero.com control panel.2. Create a new MX record and input the Host as 'mail.yourdomain.com' (without quotes) and preference '10' (without quotes).3. Then, create a new A record for the Host 'mail.yourdomain.com' with the IP address that your mail needs to point to. Alternatively, you may open a support ticket and request us to make any DNS change for you. Please allow 1-3 hours for MX changes to take effect. |
