IP Address
Any machine connected to the Internet (Web serving computers, routers, DNS servers, printers, phones, and other Internet equipped machinery) has a unique numerical internet address, much like a telephone number. This address, called the Internet Protocol address (IP address for short), is necessary because it provides computers with a "road map" of the Internet so that equipment can properly communicate between networks or locate webpages. The IP address is a complicated string of numbers. For example, an IP address may look something like: 209.217.33.100. For each group of numbers that are separated by periods, the values can range from 0-255. An IP addresses may either be assigned permanently (static ip) or temporarily from a pool of available addresses (dynamic ip).To find your IP address, please click here. |
